Transcript: How to Memorize Bible Books

Presenter: It's helpful to give students an overview of the Bible by explaining the Pentateuch are the first five books. Then it's the time of the judges, the time of the kings, the time of the major prophets, the time of the minor prophets, the Gospel, the letters that were written to congregations and people, and the book of Revelation.

[The Pentateuch starts with] Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers Deuteronomy. [Pretending Joshua is a judge] Joshua, Judges, Ruth. [Samuel anointed the first two kings, and then their lives were written about.] First Samuel, second Samuel, first Kings, second Kings, first Chronicles, second Chronicles.
[Four names come next] Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job.
[King David was followed by his son King Solomon, who wrote the next four books] Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon.
[I Just Love Eating Desert] Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel.
[In Spanish and English] Hosea, Joel, Amos. [Abbreviations come next for orange juice (OJ) and Minnesota (MH) ] Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum. [H-Z-H-Z-M are the initials of the last 5 books of the 39 books of the Hebrew Scriptures.] Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi.
[The next 27 books are the Greek Scriptures, beginning with the Gospels.] Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. [Then] Acts.
[The first Christian congregations.] Romans, First Corinthians, Second Corinthians.
[Gals Eat Pop-Corn.] Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians.
[Then 5 books beginning with T are together, beginning with the longest, the middle size one, and the teeny one at the end.] First Thessalonians, Second Thessalonians, First Timothy, Second Timothy, Titus. [Phil He-brews Java] Philemon, Hebrews, James.
[The numbered books are last.] First Peter, Second Peter, First John, Second John, Third John, Jude, Revelation.
