Transcript: Animated Series: Lesson 37. Making Sacrifices
[Text: Lesson 37. Making Sacrifices. Acts 20:35. At the Kingdom Hall, a chipper Caleb and Sophia bounce into the back seat of the family car]
Mom: Nice comments today, both of you!
[Caleb leans forward]
Caleb: So, Mom, will we…
Mom: go to the park?
[He nods]
Hmm, I think so.
[They grab a tennis racket and basketball]
Caleb: Yes!
Mom: Oh, OK!
[They grin]
We just have to wait a bit for Dad and then see what he says.
[Caleb confidently nods]
Here comes Dad! Oh, it looks like somebody needs a ride.
[An elderly brother squeezes by Caleb]
Brother: Thank you so much. I hope this doesn’t spoil your plans. What a beautiful afternoon!
[Caleb’s eyes bulge nervously]
Dad: All right, we’re going to take Wilfred home and help him with a few things. OK?
[The ball deflates, and Caleb’s mouth falls open in disappointment. Their red car comes to a stop in front of a city apartment building]
I’ll get the tools.
[Alone in the back seat Caleb scowls, sighs, and taps his fingers on his arm. From the passenger seat Mom turns around]
Mom: Caleb, you know, today you can make something Jesus made all the time.
Caleb: Make something? What?
Mom: A sacrifice.
Caleb: How?
Mom: Well, Jesus worked hard. And sometimes he had plans to rest.
[Pulling up to the rocky shoreline, Jesus steps out of the boat into clear water. He peacefully smiles and takes a deep breathe, relaxing his shoulders. He begins to walk, then stops and turns back]
But when people needed his help,
[Looking at the crowd he smiles decisively]
he made a sacrifice, . . .
Crowd: Jesus! Help us!
Mom: giving up what he wanted to do
[He advances toward the crowd]
Caleb: to help someone else.
Mom: Right!
[Bright eyed Caleb blows dust off a shelf and wipes it with a blue rag. Sophia’s pigtails sway back and forth as she cheerfully mops. Looking pleased at her work she uses her arm to wipe her forehead. Now, vacuuming under the couch at the sound of objects clunking into the vacuum, Caleb’s mouth gaps open, and his wide eyes shoot right then left. Dad focuses as he works on a ceiling fan]
Mom: And how did that make him feel?
[Eyes sparkling, Wilfred grins]
Caleb: Happy, even if he didn’t get to go to the park.
[Dad, Wilfred and Sophia relax on the couch and Caleb gleefully hops up to join them, he sticks out his tongue in exhaustion and they laugh together. Smiling Mom brings a tray of snacks]
