Transcript: What Your Peers Say. Body Image

[Text: Danielle. Danielle, a girl with black hair, holding a black and white umbrella]
Danielle: I think a lot of it has to do with the media.
[Text: Jordan. Kicks ball towards goal]
Jordan: Young boys my age
[Chats with friend]
and younger are really obsessed with what they look like. And to be honest, I’m one of them.
[Text: What Your Peers Say about Body Image]
Danielle: I’ve known people that are obsessed with their body, whether it’s male or female,
[walks down the street]
in terms of dieting more or working out more.
[Jordan catches a ball]
Jordan: They look at magazines, and they want that body.”
[Text: Chris. A young man named Chris fills up a bucket to wash his car]
Chris: When they see the way that these people are portrayed and they see this information from the media, they begin to feel even worse about themselves than they already feel.
[Text: ‘Think so as to have a sound mind. Romans 12:3]
Danielle: We get so focused on our imperfections sometimes that it’s hard to see past those and see the things that are beautiful about us.
[She flips through photo album and smiles]
Chris: When someone looks at a treasure chest, they don’t say, ‘Oh, the treasure chest is dirty and old on the outside.’ They want to know what’s the inside of it. That’s what counts.
[Looks back proud at clean car]
Danielle: We really all are beautiful, and we all have beautiful things about us, whether it’s internally or externally. Sometimes we just need help seeing those things.
[Holding her umbrella above her, Danielle walks down a treeline sidewalk]
